Building Inclusivity Through Language: The NLRB’s New Guide for HR Professionals

We have often heard leaders and employees complain ‘you can’t say anything anymore!’ and asking for “bright line rules” to build more inclusive workplaces. As an answer to that, the NLRB, working with their DEIA program, created an Inclusive Writing Guide. This is the guidance people have been looking for. The Guide provides rules on how to write and speak in an inclusive manner. It provides rules on what to write in order to reduce risk of complaints and how to say “the right things.”

The guide is 14 pages long, and is helpful for all professionals in the HR and ER space. This information is especially useful for professionals conducting investigations, to prevent allegations of bias, since their reports are often read by a wide audience, including, complainants, respondents, judges and juries.
