Savor the moment. And stop and smell the roses. Especially if they bloomed in concrete.
This is a picture of my father. He is kneeling over flowers that sprouted behind his house in Queens from a crack in the concrete. Vividly, I remember him mentioning how extraordinary it was that flowers could grow even in concrete.
Similarly, this past year has been tough. Countless people have suffered during the pandemic in more ways than one. But now perhaps we can focus on any positive things that have happened this year– such as learning to work remotely, improving how technology can serve and connect us, spending more time with family, and finding new hobbies.
This photo was a reminder to always find the beauty that flourishes during hard times. And savor it.
Because sometimes, flowers grow even in concrete.
