Some thoughts about “perfection” and work-life balance by Elena Paraskevas-Thadani (She/Her)

Today I smelled something delicious cooking in the kitchen. Considering my 13-year-old’s recent interest in culinary experimentation, I took a break from work to find out. I was disappointed to find frozen pizza in the toaster oven. I figured he could “do better” than that.

“Frozen pizza?” I asked.

“Yeah,” he answered, “that’s what I was in the mood for. Besides, I have a lot of school work today and don’t have time for anything else.”

And then I realized, not every meal needs to be a gourmet creation. There are occasions when frozen pizza is fine, and in fact may hit the spot. Sometimes, you just need to get the job done and figure out your immediate priorities. The importance is to know what is called for by the occasion.

And the pizza did actually smell quite good in this instance.
